How does CBD work and what is the endocannabinoid system?

How does CBD work in our bodies and in our brains? And what is the Endocannabinoid system (ECS)?

Most simply stated, CBD works naturally with your body by stimulating it's own endocannabinoid system.

What is the endocannabinoid system? In the 90’s scientists discovered that our bodies naturally produce cannabis-like molecules called endocannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a critical homeostatic network in the body that helps regulate a wide range of physiological processes. This means that it helps us to maintain a critical balance across many body systems.

What is a cannabinoid? Cannabinoids are molecules that trigger a specific process in the body when they attach to specific receptors of a neuron; they modulate the release of neurotransmitters throughout the nervous system. The human body produces "Endocannabinoids", and plants produce "Phytocannabinoids".

Understanding the effects of CBD on the endocannabinoid system

What is the function of cannabinoids? Scientists say it appears that the main function of the endocannabinoid system is to maintain bodily homeostasis. As such, it is a crucial physiological system involved in establishing and maintaining health. Unfortunately, research is showing that the endocannabinoid system is very easy to throw out of balance. Environment, stress, diet and exercise all influence your body’s ECS, and our modern lifestyles are undoubtedly taking a toll on this natural system.

Cannabinoid receptors are present throughout the body, including our brain, nerves, skin, immune cells, bone, fat tissue, liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, heart, blood vessels, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract. Receptors are of two types, CB1 and CB2, which operate for slightly different functions.

The Endocannabinoid system and CBD - an introduction to how CBD works

How does CBD relate? CBD is a phytocannabinoid, and engages with our endocannabinoid system and help regulate a variety of systems and mechanisms throughout our body, resulting in a symphonic effect of balance.

Are other cannabinoids important also? Absolutely! Science has proven repeatedly that maximum therapeutic value is always created by a strong "full spectrum" extract, which includes a few different cannabinoids. All of our products contain at least 5 cannabinoids, and generally have much higher ratios of accessory cannabinoids like CBG and CBC. This is why healthcare practitioners rely on NuuMe for consistent maximum efficacy.

At NuuMe, our mission is to make the highest quality full spectrum CBD products on the market -  Organic from farm to bottle.
